Hi Reader,

I hope this newsletter finds you and your animals well. This week's message is different from our usual farm updates โ€“ it's one of the most bittersweet I've ever written.

The End of an Era

After much deliberation, I've made the tough decision to step away from goat breeding. This means the Prancing Pony genetics that have taken me 10 years to develop will no longer be available after this final group of animals finds their homes.

โ€‹

What this means: When these goats are placed, that's it. No more Prancing Pony Mini Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf bloodlines. No more of the genetics that have produced ten zoo animals, productive milk goats, and countless beloved family companions.

Final Genetics Available NOW

I have 15 exceptional doeling kids and 5-6 proven adult does available โ€“ representing the culmination of everything I've learned about breeding superior dairy goats.

โ€‹

Special Final Sale Pricing:

  • $200 each (unregistered)
  • $400 each (with full registration papers)
  • Adult does: Individually priced to move quickly

โ€‹

These are the same quality animals that normally sell for $700-800. The only difference? This is my exit strategy, and I need them placed quickly so I can devote my time and energy to breeding my amazing Maremma Sheepdogs and doing virtual training consultations for livestock guardian dogs of all breeds.

โ€‹

I've been dragging my feet on pivoting my business for a long time, even though I knew it was the right move. It's time to do it already so I can focus on my real mission: making livestock guardian dog ownership joyful and stress-free for the people who count on these dogs and making life better for the dogs themselves.

โ€‹

Why I'm Sharing This With You First

As newsletter subscribers, you've been part of our journey in this business and my farm. You've read about our successes, learned from our challenges, and celebrated our milestones. It feels right to give you the first opportunity to preserve these bloodlines and bring home some amazing goats before they are all gone.

โ€‹

Some of you have been thinking about adding goats to your farm "someday." Some have admired our animals from afar. Some have been waiting for the "right time." This is that time.

โ€‹

What Makes This Opportunity Special

  • Zoo-quality genetics (remember our ten Santa Barbara Zoo goats?)โ€‹
  • 10 years of selective breeding ending with these animals
  • Disease-free, naturally-raised animals
  • Same bloodlines that have built our reputation
  • Final chance โ€“ truly never again available

The Reality

I'm focusing entirely on our Maremma Sheepdog breeding program and virtual LGD consulting moving forward. This was such a hard decision to make. I have produced over 100 kids per year for several years now, selling goats all over California and other parts of the country, including four goats who went to Hawaii in 2023. ๐ŸŒธ

โ€‹

But the reality is that I can't keep up the pace I've been keeping. Especially now that my most trusted farm hand, my youngest son, Noah, is grown and will eventually be moving out. (He's going to be 22 next month and I turned 60 this month! ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿคฃ Where did time go?!)

โ€‹

There's no way I will be able to care for a herd this large without his help and I need to prepare for that eventual "empty nest". (My husband isn't into goats and assorted farm animals so I need to get the herd down to a size I can manage by myself when Noah moves out.)

โ€‹

Not Done With Goats, Just Changing Their Role on My Farm

Now don't worry, I'm not getting out of goats completely. ๐Ÿ I love goats too much for that and they serve a very important function here on my farm as puppy trainers for my Maremma puppies. I will be keeping a small herd of my favorite goats to keep me happy and give my Maremma pups the so-important livestock socialization they need.

โ€‹

But I won't be breeding anymore and therefore don't need as many goats as I have. Ok, I may occasionally breed a goat or two down the road because I can't resist baby goats and it's great for my Maremmas to practice guarding kids. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฆฎ But large-scale goat breeding at Prancing Pony Farm is ending.

โ€‹

These animals represent my life's work in goat genetics. I'd rather see them continue their legacy in homes that will treasure them than face any other alternative.

How to Secure Your Piece of History

If you're interested, click the button below. I'll send our goat application, information about available goats and how to reserve them. Be sure to let me know in the comment field that you're interested in the sale.

โ€‹

โ€‹

First come, first served. When word spreads beyond our newsletter family, these genetics will disappear fast โ€“ and forever.

โ€‹

Looking Forward

While this chapter is closing, our Maremma Sheepdog and LGD consulting programs continue to thrive. We'll still be here to support you with livestock protection solutions and all the Maremma expertise you've come to expect.

โ€‹

But for Prancing Pony Farm goat genetics? This is truly the final call.

From My Heart

Thank you for being part of our journey. Whether you've purchased goats or Maremmas from me, followed our farm adventures, or simply enjoyed our stories โ€“ you've made this 10-year adventure meaningful.

โ€‹

If you can give one of these final goats a home, you'll be preserving something special. If not, I understand completely.

โ€‹

Either way, thank you for being part of the Prancing Pony Farm family.

With gratitude and a bit of sadness,

Kim

โ€‹

P.S. I'm actually getting emotional writing this. These animals represent so much more than livestock โ€“ they're the culmination of a dream I've pursued for 10 years. Knowing they'll live on in loving homes makes this transition easier.
