Hi Reader,
I hope you're having a great week. We are in the thick of kidding season and had our first vet emergency last night due to a stuck kid. Luckily, my vet lives literally within viewing distance from my house, so she was there within minutes. We lost one kid but saved the doe and two other kids, so despite the expensive vet bill, it was a win.

If you want to reserve any of our adorable Mini Nubian or Nigerian Dwarf kids, you can do that here:
I wanted to share some important updates about our Maremma Sheepdog breeding program that might affect your future livestock guardian dog plans.
Current Availability Update:We have a few exceptional 8-9 month-old Maremmas ready for placement and a couple of adult LGDs. These adolescent Maremmas have advantages many livestock owners appreciate—they're past the intensive puppy stage, have solid livestock socialization foundations, and offer more immediate protection capability than younger puppies.
Spring Litters & Waiting List Status: Clients on our waiting list have mostly reserved our April litter. (There may be a few spots available, depending on how large the litter is.) We're now planning our breeding schedule for the remainder of 2025, which brings me to an important point.
Why I'm Writing Today: I've noticed a significant shift in the Livestock Guardian Dog market. After the flood of poorly bred, improperly socialized "guardian dogs" that dominated during the pandemic, more discerning farm owners are returning to quality breeders with proven health testing, proper socialization programs, and a strong client support system in place.
This means our waiting list is growing again, and I want to ensure you can secure your place if a Maremma is in your farm's future.
The Advantage of Planning Ahead: Clients who reserve in advance gain several benefits:
Selection priority based on reservation date
The ability to choose your preferred age and gender
Time to prepare proper fencing and integration areas
Alignment with your specific farm development timeline
Peace of mind knowing your livestock protection is secured
What This Means For You: If you're considering adding a Maremma to your farm in 2025 (or even early 2026), now is the ideal time to secure your reservation. Our breeding schedule for the remainder of the year will be determined largely by committed reservations.
Next Steps:
If you're interested in our currently available adolescent or adult Maremmas, reply to this email for details, and we can schedule a call to discuss your specific needs.
If you're planning a future addition, a $500 reservation fee will secure your place on our waiting list.
Not sure which timing is right for your situation? Book a free Maremma discovery call, and we can discuss your specific timeline and needs.
I'm committed to matching the right Maremma with the right farm at the right time and being there as you finish the job I started with your dog—that's what sets Prancing Pony Farm apart from other breeders.
Wishing you and your animals safety and prosperity,
P.S. I recently published a new blog post explaining why waiting to reserve your LGD is a mistake. It includes real stories from clients who planned ahead and those who didn't, as well as their choices in where they acquired their dogs—the differences in their experiences are eye-opening.
